You have read my posts about the services business dying. Clients needing us less every month. AI disrupting the entire model. All of that is real.
But the money flow is not the main reason I am pivoting.
The main reason is harder to say out loud.
I’ve been coding since 2016. Before AI. Before anyone imagined this era. Back then, when I built something, I felt proud. Because not everyone could do it. It was rare. It was MINE.
Then AI came.
Now someone with zero development knowledge can build an app over a weekend. The skill I spent 10 years building became a prompt.
People will say this is jealousy. It is not.
I never wanted to do something everyone can do. That was the whole point. The pride was never in typing code. The pride was in being one of the few who could.
Here is the confusing part: I still love building. Two months ago I sat in a cafe for 7.5 hours on a hobby project and loved every minute. The craft still gives me joy. I’m still working with my clients. I might do more in this industry in the future.
But something died. “Software developer” used to mean something. Now anyone can claim it after a weekend with AI tools.
So yes, Uptech is adapting. Yes, the business side forced decisions. But if I’m being completely honest with myself, even if the money was still flowing, I would still be restless.
Because I’m not doing something rare anymore.
I am on a quest now. Looking for the thing that is still rare. I don’t fully know what it is yet.
But I know one thing: I’d rather start from zero at something rare than stay comfortable at something common.
