Once, I was sitting with Sir Zubair, one of my best teachers from Szabist Islamabad. He asked me, “Umar, do you have any goals in life?” I was caught off guard and replied, “What do you mean? Everyone has some goals, but if you ask me what mine are, I can’t answer because I haven’t thought about it like that yet.” He then asked me, “Do you know about the goal card?” I said no. He looked at me, turned his laptop, and played a video where a speaker from a TED talk was explaining the concept of the goal card. Let me summarize it.
According to him, if you set a goal and write it on paper with a date for achieving that goal and keep it somewhere where you will see it at least three times a day, then there are almost 85%-90% chances that you will achieve the goal before the date you have written on the goal card. However, the date written on the goal card should be reasonable, meaning that you should have enough time to work towards and achieve that goal. The concept behind the goal card is that if you see something repeatedly in your daily life, you will be motivated to work hard and achieve it, no matter how difficult it is.
